What I wish I had learned in my teacher training - a 7 week Mindfulness course for teachers and teaching assistants

This has now been postponed until the New Year

With more teachers leaving the profession and suffering health problems there has never been a better time to start taking care of your staff. We are pleased to be able to offer our first course for teachers and their assistants to introduce them to living more mindfully and all the benefits that has to offer. The course will be facilitated by Helen Pengelly who is a qualified leadership coach and has been practising mindfulness and meditation for over 10 years. She is also a qualified teacher so she knows the pressure that teachers face every day. She will be sharing her experience and giving you tools to help you manage your emotions and take care of yourself more effectively.

Course outline - subject to review. 
  • Week 1: Looking at where we are now using life wheels.. Introduction to mindfulness with the 3 minute breathing space and body scan.
  • Week 2: Uncoupling emotions- learning to be less reactive. Developing compassion. Longer body scan.
  • Week 3: Being in the 'gap'. Becoming more aware of responses and how beliefs affect behaviour. Introduction to Mindfulness meditation.
  • Week 4: Developing self compassion. Mindfulness meditation.
  • Week 5: Self care. Cultivating loving kindness towards ourselves and others. Introduction to loving kindness meditation.
  • Week 6: Reviewing life wheels and where we are now. Taking our practice forward and finding support. 
  • Week 7: Follow up webinar. A chance to ask questions and review your practice.
